A 54-year-old Australian man had sought dental implant treatment elsewhere at a clinic in Chennai. Citing very cheap and attractive rates, inferior-quality implants are often advertised to lure unsuspecting patients. In one such case, this patient underwent full-mouth implant treatment at some other clinic in Chennai. Subsequently the implants failed, they began to loosen and got infected causing severe pain and difficulty in eating & chewing.
Digital OPG X-ray revealed severe loss of bone surrounding the implants that caused them to loosen and dislodge. Maxillofacial Surgeon and Implantologist Dr. S.M. Balaji successfully performed the complete rehabilitation. The failed implants were removed completely and the surrounding infection controlled. New superior enhanced implants were placed with good retention and stability. Following complete osseointegration of the implants with the surrounding jaw bone, ceramic prosthesis was placed.
