Successful surgery for Hemangioma of nose (Rare nose surgery with reconstruction)
A 9-month old baby girl from Kerala afflicted with Hemangioma of the nose was brought to our Hospital for specialized care. The tumor lesion was excised. Forehead island flap with surpratrochlear nerve supply was raised, tunneled & brought down on the nose and defect was closed. By using forehead island flap, color mismatch was avoided
A 19-year-old college student consulted Maxillofacial Surgeon & Implantologist Dr. SM Balaji for treatment of her intraoral cleft defect & replacement of missing teeth. Bone graft was done for closure of oro-nasal fistula and alveolar cleft defect closure. At the same time, dental implants were placed in the reconstructed upper jaw bone in the missing teeth region, avoiding an additional surgery. Following osseointegration of the implants with jaw bone, ceramic crown prosthesis will be given.
A 30 year old woman sought the expertise of Maxillo-facial Surgeon Dr. SM Balaji for reconstruction of her right ear. She was born with Hemifacial Microsomia, a facial birth deformity in which growth of one side of the face is affected, giving the face a crooked appearance. She also had a right ear defect. She had previously undergone ear reconstruction elsewhere but it failed, the ear did not have a raised appearance and was flattened, in line with the face.
Dr. Balaji expertly grafted the cartilage from her rib to reconstruct the ear framework & the entire ear cartilage was repositioned. The temporalis fascia from the side of her forehead was mobilized to reconstruct the ear musculature. For overlying skin coverage, the amount of skin required was accurately measured using lint & skin was grafted from her lower abdomen. Ear lobule was also corrected. The entire ear structure was raised and a splint was placed beneath the structure to prevent relapse. In the next & final stage of surgery, the ear will be reshaped to resemble the normal form.
